HPE & Aruba win big in CRN’s Product of the Year 2017 Awards

Published date: 14/12/2017 14:55

As an HPE partner of over 30 years Westcoast are proud to be associated with an organisation that shares our commitment to Unrelenting Excellence, and are therefore delighted that those qualities have been recognised in the CRN Product of the Year 2017 Awards.

Judging for the 2017 Products of the Year went directly to those who work with the offerings to solve problems for customers.

To start, CRN editors selected five product finalists among 20 top technology categories for the IT channel. They then asked solution providers to determine a winner based on how the products rate on technology, revenue and profit opportunities, and customer demand.

HPE and Aruba products were conspicuous in many of the categories and winners in those below:

GENERAL-PURPOSE SERVERS

HPE PROLIANT DL380, GEN10

WINNER: OVERALL

The 10th-generation version of Hewlett Packard Enterprise's popular server, the ProLiant DL380, incorporates the latest in storage and memory technologies -- with key components including HPE's new persistent memory

The technology combines standard DRAM along with NAND flash memory, a microcontroller, and an integrated battery on a module that fits in a standard memory slot. And unlike the first generation of persistent memory, which was available in 8-GB modules, the version in the Gen10 servers is available in 16-GB modules. "With persistent memory, you can scale high-performance computing type of workloads much more effectively than ever before," said Dan Molina, chief technology officer of San Diego-based Nth Generation Computing. "The performance benefits have been radically improved thanks to this persistent scalable memory."

HYPER-CONVERGED INFRASTRUCTURE

HPE SIMPLIVITY 380

WINNER: OVERALL

Hewlett Packard Enterprise's SimpliVity 380 integrates the SimpliVity OmniStack software that HPE acquired this year to unify compute, storage services and networking in a single HPE ProLiant DL380. The HPE SimpliVity 380 offers a full suite of traditional IT functions including WAN optimization, unified global VM-centric management, data protection, cloud integration, built-in backup, and disaster recovery.
The offering is a "game-changer" in part thanks to "its ability to optimize data from the very first I/O," said Dan Molina, chief technology officer of San Diego-based Nth Generation Computing. "When the first byte of data gets created, it's already being optimized by using data compression and data deduplication. For many other products, that's an after-thought."

MIDRANGE STORAGE

HPE NIMBLE CLOUD VOLUMES

WINNER: OVERALL

Nimble Storage, now owned by Hewlett Packard Enterprise, this year debuted its storage service Nimble Cloud Volumes that is aimed at making it easy for customers to switch between multiple clouds. Nimble Cloud Volumes is a block solution that allows businesses to use multiple clouds without getting locked into any of them, since the data itself is not stored on a public cloud.

Instead, data is stored on Nimble flash storage and tied to Microsoft Azure or AWS, allowing applications on the public clouds to access the data quickly. "The multi-cloud approach makes sense combined with on-premise, but going back and forth between multiple clouds can get very expensive," said Dan Molina, chief technology officer of San Diego-based Nth Generation Computing. "With Nimble Cloud Volumes, you can quickly copy your data to the cloud, move it to another cloud provider, or back on-premise without any costly data egress charges. More and more customers are interested in that approach."

Networking

HPE ARUBA 8400 CORE SWITCH SERIES

SUBCATEGORY WINNER: REVENUE AND PROFIT

HPE Aruba's 8400 Core Switch Series, powered by the new ArubaOS-CX operating system, brings modern dynamic software capabilities to the enterprise network.

The new switches provide advanced automation and software intelligence. In addition, the switches are purpose - built for the changing traffic patterns that are created by mobile and cloud business applications.
