Now that the weather has improved to such a degree where going outside isn’t met with concerned glances and the very real possibility of getting drenched to the bone, it’s a great time to take stock of your health and wellbeing and start making positive changes. Empty promises to ‘exercise six days a week’ and ‘eat nothing with added sugar’ sound amazing on paper (and indeed on social media), but if you’re not looking after yourself at work then it’s only going to go so far.
Take a look in front of you right now. Chances are your keyboard isn’t too far away. When was the last time you actually cleaned it? Last week? Last month? Was it before you got the inevitable cold, or was it after? You can be as healthy as you want, but if you’re working in an unhygienic environment then illness is practically guaranteed. The bigger the office, the higher the likelihood of germs spreading — just think about the amount of people who touch door handles. Obviously you can’t completely prevent germs, but at the very least you can make sure that you’re cleaning your desk and your IT equipment with specially designed cleaning supplies. As we Brits are a nation of hand shakers, you’ll probably want to get some hand sanitiser too. Thankfully there are loads of products from AF International that can help make sure your workstation is as clean as can be.
Sometimes you can get the odd ache when you’re working, but this doesn’t mean that you should ignore it. Muscle ache can be a particular problem in colder temperatures, with dull pains prevalent, or simply feeling like you just can’t get comfortable. When you’re working in front of a screen for most of the day, your back is going to take a lot of extra stress too, and this will eventually catch up with you. You can alleviate some of this stress by getting a Fellowes back support and footrest to help with your posture; it could also be worth looking at the possibility of getting a sit-stand workstation to avoid being sat down for extended periods of time. No matter what you do to reduce discomfort, you should never underestimate the importance of taking a break from your desk or going for a quick walk during lunch.
By looking after your physical health you’ll see benefits on the outside, but make sure you don’t forget about what’s on the inside too. Once you’ve done some exercise, make time for some downtime like watching a film, reading a book or playing a game. While we don’t deal in films or books (never say never though), we can definitely help out if you’re in the market for a new Samsung gaming monitor, or if you’ve got a customer who’s looking for some advice. In fact, we can help out with just about anything that’s been mentioned above. Just give us a call or contact your Account Manager.
