Meet King Macbeth – Westcoast’s 2018 CRN Fight Night Contender

Published date: 26/04/2018 15:36

If there’s one king you don’t want to mess with it has to be ‘King’ Macbeth. On the 24th of May, our Systems Integrator Business Manager James will be stepping into CRN fight night 2018 to unleash his newly found boxing skills on his unsuspecting opponent!

We spoke with James to find out a bit more about the man behind the gloves and why he has decided to take on the challenge to clutch onto Westcoast’s winning belt for the second year running. “I think CRN fight night is a fantastic opportunity to allow you to challenge yourself and raise awareness for charities at the same time, it’s always something I’ve been keen to try. Two years ago my step mother passed away as a result of breast cancer, losing someone so close to me has really spurred me on to do something a bit different in her memory and also help raise awareness at the same time.”

James has ran marathons in the past which of course takes great determination and stamina. However boxing is something that is fairly new to him and really quite out of his comfort zone, but that hasn’t stopped him diving fist first into the challenge. James has had to make certain sacrifices whilst embarking on a 10 week rigorous training regime which will run right up until the big night on the 24th of May. “I’ve been training for two hours back to back twice a week over the last 6 weeks, it’s intense but I’m really enjoying it, giving up alcohol has been quite tough though. I’ve been doing a mix of squad and technical training, which has given me great insight into the world of boxing and I think it’s something that I would really like to continue after the big fight.”

James will be supported on the night by colleagues, friends and family. When asked what his colleague’s thought about him stepping into ring he answered. “They all took the mick when they first found out, but really they are quite excited that I’m doing it. I’m sure they don’t want me to get punched repeatedly and they’re looking forward to a good night out!” James has got some big boots to fill after our Sales Account Manager Paula Kastrouni took home the winning belt last year. “Hopefully I can match Paula’s success and keep Westcoast on a winning path!”

Tactics are extremely important in the ring and James has certainly anticipated how he wants to approach the fight…“My tactics are simple, run and duck, run some more and duck some more, stay focused and of course as our Managing Director Alex Tatham would say ‘Be more cheetah’.”

When asked if he has any advice for anyone thinking of taking part next year James said “Train hard – and however fit you think you are, you will need to double it, maybe even triple it!”

James will be fighting on the 24th of May at The Brewery in London raising money for ‘Breast cancer Now’. If you would like to show your support you can donate here
