The All-Round Modern Workplace

With the snow finally melting, storm Emma feels like a distant memory, but there’s little doubt that a huge number of businesses will still be feeling its effects when tallying up their monthly accounts. Even those who didn’t suffer from power, telecom and water cuts would have found themselves incommoded by absenteeism. The problem is, that even with the best will in the world, if your team usually work from a wired office space, there’s absolutely nothing they can do when snow, wind, or ‘leaves on the line’ prevent them from coming to work.

Thousands of business hours were lost in the first week of March ’18 because of ‘extreme weather conditions’, but the really frustrating thing from our point of view, is that many of them didn’t have to be.

As resellers, you know as well as we do that there are now endless tools for the mobile workforce. We’ve moved beyond enormous towers and tethered VDUs to lightweight laptops, tablets, and hybrids, even PC towers that can easily be picked up and carried – particularly with Microsoft Surface. However, it doesn’t stop there; it’s what’s inside that also counts. With Microsoft 365 delivering not just the essential Office suite, but cloud storage, communication tools, and remote desktop access so all company systems and data can be retrieved and used from anywhere, the office is as much a concept as a destination.

You know this, we know this, but do your customers? How many have embraced a mobile workforce, which doesn’t just accommodate the Great British weather, but those times when one of the kids is off sick but need little attention, or when the car breaks down, or the boiler repair person can only come during business hours. How many are mired in traditional desk-bound team scenarios?
