Rescue, reuse, reimagine: Our commitment to sustainability

Published date: 14 October 2024

Back to insights

At Westcoast, we’re committed to giving devices a longer lease of life. And as part of 2024’s Recycle Week theme ‘Rescue Me’, we’re taking action to prevent recyclable materials from going to waste.

From our partnership with Closing the Loop to our asset disposal and refurbishment services, we're dedicated to driving sustainability throughout the supply chain.

Rescuing devices with Closing the Loop

When our partners opt into Closing the Loop's One for One programme, they ensure that, for every new device purchased, an equivalent device is prevented from going into landfill in developing countries that lack recycling infrastructure. These products are responsibly recycled, reducing e-waste and creating employment opportunities.

We, at Westcoast, have also joined the One for One scheme ourselves when we refreshed our teams devices – saving fifty equivalent devices from becoming e-waste – alongside the responsible processing of the Westcoast team’s legacy technologies. Through Closing the Loop, we can enhance our environmental impact and support communities worldwide.

Enabling partners with asset disposal services

We understand the critical role our partners play in the technology supply chain. That’s why we offer comprehensive IT Asset Disposal (ITAD) services that make it easier for partners to responsibly manage hardware disposal.

From secure data wiping to environmentally friendly recycling processes, ITAD ensures that end-of-life devices are effectively managed and that both the environment and data security are protected. The service provides compliant and more sustainable IT solutions for end customers.

Westcoast Asset Management (WAM):
Refurbishing and repurposing devices for the channel

With WAM, we reduce waste by giving devices a second life. Products unsuitable for traditional channels are refurbished for resale or reuse, while damaged devices are responsibly recycled, driving sustainability through the supply chain.

Our sustainability achievements

We’re proud to:

  • Have saved 489 tonnes of paper and 66 tonnes of plastic, including PVC and PET waste, from going to landfill in 2023
  • Ensure all our warehouses have dedicated waste recycling programmes that cover a range of materials
  • Work with vendors and partners to reduce packaging
  • Have installed a water harvester at our Andover distribution centre, collecting 36,376m³ of rainwater over 10 years for use within the facility.

  • Every action adds up to a sustainable supply chain. For more on how Westcoast is building a greener supply chain, contact your Account Manager or visit Westcoast Commits.
